It’s that time of year – the BEST of the NORTHWEST ANIMATION FESTIVAL is playing this Friday, September 15 at the Hollywood Theatre. Tickets will move, this show SELLS OUT, so be sure to buy tickets soon!
North of Blue is an abstract, animated feature (60 min.) that began in the mysterious winter landscape of the far north where I was filmmaker-in-residence at the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture in Dawson City, Canada. The program will include a slide show about the Yukon and how the film was made.
Jamie Haggerty created the music and sound design with additional sound effects by Chris Barber. Paint effects and title design by Brian Kinkley.

ASIFA Portland member Ben Chapin is presenting the first mini-festival screening of Overlapping Action #5 – COMBINATION this coming Saturday the 12th at the Po’ Boy Art Framing and Art Gallery, located at 5444 SE Foster Rd. in Portland. It will be a part of Po’ Boy’s event Everything’s Explodin’ which features rock posters and art prints by Guy Burwell, a Portland illustrator.
Ben will offer evening screenings (5 and 7pm) of the mini-festival in the downstairs studio area.

ASIFA Portland proudly presents: REEL Love
What is REEL Love?
This is a FREE, all ages event where we have a panel of currently working professionals ready to give feedback on your work based around the animation industry. Students, enthusiasts, and professionals alike are all encouraged to attend.
How does it work?
Attendees are welcome to stop in any time during the event (12pm to 3pm) and have a 10-15 minute one on one portfolio feedback session with a professional of their choosing. There will be a sign up sheet at each station, sessions are first come, first served.
Attendees must bring their material/videos on a USB flashdrive or hard drive as we will not be relying on internet to review materials.

What do I do while I’m waiting for my turn?
Network! Light snacks with be provided by Animation Resource Community Services for anyone that wants to mingle.
Attendees are encouraged to test out Wacom’s many products and features around the room.There will be a dedicated ASIFA info table for anyone that has any questions about our group, or Portland’s animation community at large.
ASIFA Portland is excited to have you at our annual animation party, in conjunction with NW Animation Fest. Get inspired, then come across the street to The Magnolia to drink and draw with local Portland animators.

It’s about the peak of summer, which means it’s time for our most popular and caloric get-together, this year celebrating ASIFA Portland’s 25th anniversary! On Sunday, August 9, come join us for an afternoon of ice cream, croquet, pinata, table-top stop-mo, prizes, doodling, animation talk, and plain old community. It all takes place at Marilyn Zornado and Alan Garren’s amazing Church of the Acoustic Redemption, up in beautiful St. John’s! Check out the Facebook event, and feel free to bring toppings, friends, spouses, kids, and well-socialized dogs!
