cool, thanks for the suggestions! i’m not sure if we can afford a new lunchbox, otherwise it would definitely be on my list. i’ve enjoyed using one in the past. i’ll definitely check out those software links.

Looking for suggestions on a mini animation studio setup for adults with developmental disabilities. I’d like them to be able to do under-camera work as well as directly draw each frame in digital format using a wacom tablet. needs to be very accessible and simple.
For an intuitive, simple setup, I think a LunchBox is hard to beat– http://www.animationtoolworks.com/
It requires a video camera and monitor, but can be used for hand-drawn, stop-mo, cutouts, etc. Very hands-on and designed without excessive bells & whistles.You could also use freeware like MonkeyJam ( http://www.giantscreamingrobotmonkeys.com/monkeyjam/ ) coupled with a video camera or webcam. We shot our recent Drink & Draw jam using a webcam and were pleased with how it turned out.
For drawing straight into an application via a Wacom tablet, there are freeware options you might check out. I’m not sure that Monkey Jam works with a tablet, but Pencil ( http://www.pencil-animation.org/ ) does.
