If I remember correctly, I think someone said the library doesn’t want any gatherings that don’t welcome the general public. So, an ASIFA-specific gathering wouldn’t work there. 3DV sounds promising though!

I know this comes up from time to time, so I thought I’d just put it out there for posterity. Meeting spaces: 3DV is open to having meetings held in their space, and would welcome hosting classes or training. http://www.3dv.com/#/Training/ Multnomah County Libraries have meeting spaces, if they are free, open and of potential interest [...]

Have you been wanting to do some life drawing but haven’t been sure where to go? Here’s a few places I’ve found that do regular life drawing sessions: The Canvas: Mondays at 7pm. http://www.thecanvaspdx.com Free with encouraged purchase of beer/food. Their poses are clothed and longer in time frame. Suggested for balancing sketching with socializing. [...]

Does anyone know were we can get 7 interesting chairs for a paneled discussion we are having Feb 23rd? I was thinking an eclectic collection older furniture or a mixed bag of newer modern furniture. Any help would be appreciated!

This new movie trailer’s got me super excited. This is from the same studio that made The Secret of Kells, including the same director that came to Portland with the film last year.

Temris Ridge started the forum topic 2011 Animated Movie Lineup in the group General Chat: 1 year, 4 months ago · View
Check out Cartoon Brew’s list. It includes a few big-name sequals (Happy Feet 2, Cars 2, Kung Fu Panda), some classic titles (Tintin, Winnie the Pooh) and a couple of new concepts. Does this list get you excited? Apprehensive? Tell us what you think about the lineup on our forum: http://www.asifaportland.org/forums/
http://www.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film/preview-2011-american-animated-features.htmlRango looks refreshing. I like that the characters look like flesh-and-blood critters rather than vinyl toys.
But those are some ugly, ugly Smurfs.
Yeah, Rango does look refreshing. Suprisingly gritty, too. Should be good. Not sure about Rio, though. I don’t see anything new or exciting in that one, no matter how pretty it is.

Matthew Dan started the forum topic Help with Selecting a Scanner! in the group ASIFA Feedback: 1 year, 5 months ago · View
Alright, so I am currently looking to buy a new scanner to scan in my drawings for my hand drawn animation. I want to be able to scan in and vectorize my drawings, at a fairly fast pace. I’ve been thinking of buying a sheet-fed scanner like this one:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16838309002 Does anyone have any suggestions? I’ve [...]
I don’t know which model is best, but having spent what felt like a million hours on a traditional scanner with a peg bar taped to it, I’d definitely vote for a sheet-fed scanner.
That was my logic. I think I’ll experiment with a sheet fed and see what comes of it.
Do you vectorize your images and color them afterward? What’s your process? What software do you use? I’m curious. When scanning, I’d just clean each drawing as a bitmap in Photoshop, then composite with After Effects. These days I’m going paperless, drawing w/ a Wacom tablet directly into Toon Boom. So far so good.

Are you or do you know a teen who desires to do some animating? There’s a winter break course for grades 7-12 with 4 sessions of instruction on 2D Flash animation through the NW Film Center. Looks pretty neat!
