I certainly like the idea! Maybe just nail down a couple people and do a shout-out to invite anyone else who wants go partake?
In reply to - Christina Beard posted an update: Hi everyone! I just moved here about a year ago, was at the Northwest Animation Festival yesterday and had a wonderful time meeting everyone. Would anyone be interested in maybe doing a casual once monthly meetup where we can all just chill out together somewhere? I do this with the PAGDIG [...] · View -

If I remember correctly, I think someone said the library doesn’t want any gatherings that don’t welcome the general public. So, an ASIFA-specific gathering wouldn’t work there. 3DV sounds promising though!

Have you been wanting to do some life drawing but haven’t been sure where to go? Here’s a few places I’ve found that do regular life drawing sessions: The Canvas: Mondays at 7pm. http://www.thecanvaspdx.com Free with encouraged purchase of beer/food. Their poses are clothed and longer in time frame. Suggested for balancing sketching with socializing. [...]

I just read that China’s minutes of animation produced in 2010 had a 28% increase from 2009. Nearly 80% of the 220,530 minutes were state-run productions. I think the Obama Administration should be motivated to put a little monetary energy into this element of American culture!

This new movie trailer’s got me super excited. This is from the same studio that made The Secret of Kells, including the same director that came to Portland with the film last year.

I just stumbled upon ASIFA Seattle’s recent Anijams (Drinking and drawing, I think without the drinking!).

I like how the first segment of the animation is the title. We should do that next time! But they certainly didn’t have quite so much nor quite as wild of content as ours.

Yeah, Rango does look refreshing. Suprisingly gritty, too. Should be good. Not sure about Rio, though. I don’t see anything new or exciting in that one, no matter how pretty it is.

http://www.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film/preview-2011-american-animated-features.htmlRango looks refreshing. I like that the characters look like flesh-and-blood critters rather than vinyl toys.
But those are some ugly, ugly Smurfs.
