The 2012 Northwest Animation Festival

The weekend of May 18-19 marks the much-anticipated return of The Northwest Animation Festival! Last year was a great time – the sheer amount of animation and animators on hand was giddying – and this year’s event raises the stakes in every regard, moving into the retro-Tinseltown cushiness of the Hollywood Theatre.

The program showcases the very best of contemporary animation, including nearly 60 short films from 15 countries, with different films screening each night. See many Oscar contenders—including the 2012 Best Animated Short, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. Friday night concludes with an hour-long presentation from LAIKA, including a special sneak peek into their forthcoming feature film, ParaNorman. Saturday, see Three Fragments of a Lost Tale by John Frame, whose hand-carved puppets are concurrently on exhibit at the Portland Art Museum.
