Sylvain Chomet’s much-anticipated new feature, The Illusionist, arrives in Portland on January 28. It’s garnered rave reviews but would qualify as a don’t-miss based on The Triplets of Belleville alone. It’s screening at Cinema 21.

Also in late January, the Northwest Film Center will be screening My Dog Tulip in an exclusive, weeklong run at the Whitsell Auditorium from January 21 – 27. The film has appeared on several top 10 lists this year: Stephen Holden of the New York Times calls the film an “exquisite hand-drawn screen adaptation” and Kyle Smith of New York Post says it’s “the year’s finest animated movie.” Full schedule, film trailer, and tickets for Tulip are here.
